beach house interior
After two destructive hurricanes, Jill Shevlin Design turned this Vero Beach home into a beachy wonderland. What started as a beach house interior design project turned into a full-fledged renovation that included rebuilding the upstairs terrace after the backside of the home was destroyed, and reworking the original floorplan to swap the positions of the kitchen and living room.
The result was a casual and contemporary beach house interior that evokes the Vero Beach location at every turn.
Visitors are immediately greeted by the beach theme as they walk through the door, with seashell decor and a playful rug. Inside, bold architectural touches like column-flanked archways stemming off the living room pair with a lighthearted blue-and-yellow color palette. Pastel colors create an easy, breezy, and calming environment — it’s hard to imagine ever feeling stressed in this retreat.
The living room’s baby blue sofas, coral-patterned throw pillows, and seashell-adorned shelves make it the perfect place to relax after a sunny day in the sand. The laid back beach house interior design of the room is met with sophisticated elements, like the fireplace mantle and custom-designed cabinetry. Jill worked closely with the architect to realize the cabinet design to meet her clients’ vision.
The kitchen includes a custom-designed island with a wraparound bar for enjoying the ocean views over breakfast. The piece serves as a countertop, table, and bar.
Outside, the rebuilt upstairs terrace boasts stunning ocean views. Tall columns and hardwood flooring give the casual space a sense of luxury. The terrace features a glass-top table and wicker chairs with indoor/outdoor fabric, coaxing the interior color scheme to the outdoors.
The homeowners love their restored beach house retreat, stating, “It’s like living in a painting.”
