Library Love a Look Back at Home Offices
I have had the pleasure of working in a profession I love for more than 20 years now (Yikes! where does the time go?)
To say things have changed over the years, is a bit, of an understatement! Way back in the day Formal Libraries were a fairly regular room I designed. It was for the most part thought of as a "Manly" space that served to hold books, a desk and comfortable seating. A man cave of sorts, before man cave was even a thing. Looking back over the images of Libraries I have designed over the years I noticed that the same basic elements exist in all the libraries I have done. Things have just gotten a little looser and texture and color have made a big difference in how I approach Library Design Now.
7 Coastal Inspired Designs that are Anything but Average
Design life in a beach community could easily lead one to think of cute coastal beachy decorating.
Coastal design does not have to be cute all beachy.
Over the years I have done my fair share of coastal design, and there is no doubt that shells, sea life, and botanicals are a big part of coastal design. All of these are go to favorites of mine. I do try to keep my coastal design to a Traditional Tone and a sophisticated vibe. Here are are some designs I have created over the years that are coastal, but elevated design with a nod to coastal.
The truth of the matter is that there is no way for anyone living in a Coastal Community to get away from beach inspired themes, entirely. Obviously, if you live near the beach, you must appreciate at least some part of beach style or life. There is little chance if you live near the ocean pieces will not find a way into your home. We have all seen homes and rooms gone awry with beach theme OVER-LOAD! It is easy enough to do if you let yourself. I have been guilty myself on occasion. A good rule to live by… Always… is “less is more”. Let the items you have that speak “beach” be subtle and sophisticated enough to get the idea without the overwhelm.
The Great Outdoor Spaces.
An opportunity that should not be overlooked as an additional room or an extension of your living space.
Here are 9 outdoor spaces that extended the living area of some of the homes I have designed over the years.
I will raise my hand and readily admit to being an outdoor room fa-na-tic! I love to sit outside and just do nothing, just taking in the beauty of nature. The best way to enjoy it, in my humble design opinion is in a space that is outside but feels like it could be inside. Outdoor rooms are an extension of your home and should be created with the same thought and consideration as the main rooms in your house.
Shop All Style of Lamps
There is nothing more satisfying than finding the Perfect Lamp to finish off a room. Lamps, lamps, lamps, they come in every size, shape, material, and style you can imagine. I have gathered some of my favorites that are my go-to lamps for most of my projects and put them all in one place for you to check out. Let me know which style is your favorite. Me…I like sparkly things so I generally run to the crystal lamps. But I do love a good gord style just as much. Then…there are those time when nothing but a great iron lamp will do. Good thing there are choices! Take a look here. Enjoy!
Ten Bedroom Decorating Ideas from my Design Portfolio.
The Bedroom is by far one of my Favorite spaces to design and decorate.
It can be a fun, serious, a room that is a sanctuary, a room for guests, a room for kids, the list goes on and on. I think that’s why I love to design and decorate bedrooms the options are endless. Could be because I have design SO Many! Every project has 2-3 and sometimes 4 bedrooms. Practice makes perfect? I’ve gathered a variety of bedrooms from my portfolio. Had to limit it to ten…could have gone on and on, but decided to start with ten.
My USA White Matte Pottery Collection
It all started innocently enough with a single floraline vase. I found the shapes interesting as well as the story.
Hiding the TV in a Formal Living Room
We all have a TV or two or three. There is no escape from the big black box on the wall.
But, does it have to be ugly?
The television is front and center in every Family Room. The big question is, do you want one in the Living Room as well? And, if you do have a TV in the Living Room how do you make it look good?
In this recently completed California renovation project, I had the challenge to do both hide the TV and make it look good – under some slightly difficult circumstances.
