...

I have zero-zip-nada actual experience designing a nursery, but these would be some of the items I would include for a chic, fun kids room or nursery.  I have had the opportunity to create several bunk rooms for kids of all ages as well as guest bedrooms designed for kids.

Here are my top design essentials for creating a chic kids room.

1. Washable Rugs

Washable Rugs are always a good idea!

Add color interest and pattern to any room and make it practical.

Don't go with an average boring rug, kick it up a notch with a pattern rug.   The bold colors are great for kids room without looking childish.

2.  Storage - Storage and More Storage

The bunk room below I designed for grand kids but the room can easily accommodate kids of any age.  In this case the stairs to the top bunks were made as drawers for additional storage.  With white T&G (what some like to call shiplap) walls this room is ready for any accent color you choose.

If you would like to see the entire Johns Island, Vero Beach home this fun bunk room is in check it out HERE.

3.  Above Average Art

Go above and beyond with art for the walls with sophisticated and unique pieces that will grow with the kids.   Why not elevate a kids room?

4.  Window Treatments

This pretty in pink bedroom was designed with little girls in mind but we didn't do cutesy.   Full drapery side panels with valances on rods in indoor/outdoor fabric are pretty perfect for any kids room.

5.  Color

If color is your jamb, don't be timid.  Check out this bright and cheerful bunk room.  The basics are simple with pops of color that can change with time.

6. Create a Statement Wall

Create a focal point with a statement wall. Wallpaper, decals, or painting an accent color to  add visual interest without overwhelming the space.

7. Comfortable Seating

Include a comfortable rocking chair or glider with plush cushions for late-night feedings and soothing moments.

8. Multi-functional Furniture

Opt for furniture that serves multiple purposes. For example, a changing table with built-in storage or a crib that can later convert into a toddler bed.

Inspired by vintage American metal cribs, the Winston 4-in-1 Crib is made of premium steel and comes in a vintage gold finish. Featuring classic metal casting at the joints and simple curves, Winston also converts to a full-size bed to grow with your baby.

9. Soft Textiles

Choose soft and cozy textiles such as rugs, curtains, and bedding. Consider textures like faux fur or knit for added comfort.

10. Floor Cushions or Poufs

Create a comfortable play area with floor cushions or poufs. This is especially useful as the baby grows and starts to explore.
