Transformation Tuesday
Well, I almost made it on Tuesday….again! Oh well.
Casual and elegant with a touch of tropical flair is how I would describe the After of this Orchid Island home’s renovation. The transformation is all in the details and here it started with the fireplace. The room before was void of any interest, there was zip-zero-nada a thing going on. I took advantage of the opportunity to make a statement with the fireplace. The poor thing was just drab and crying for some attention! With the help of my trusted cabinet makers and mill work experts it was easy to utilize the existing granite surround and create a beautiful focal point.
By far the biggest change is the addition of mill work at the fireplace. There was already an existing bump out and beautiful crown molding to work with. The granite surround was the correct size and could not change due to code restrictions. Taking advantage of the depth allowed for widening the fireplace area and created more interest and detail with dimension. The fireplace gained some much needed grounding with the full mantel with a header and two vertical legs. There is beaded molding in the center and applied molding at the top to give it presence and create an encompassed look. From drab to fab! I love the way this turned out.
My clients also wanted the room to work as a all purpose room. In addition to a fireplace we needed to incorporate a TV and make the room kid and dog friendly. Just a tiny wish list for a not so large room. In order to make that happen I selected a rich brown fabric that would not show any stains. A cool Ikat print fabric on the pillow looks great with the fun funky Palecek rattan chairs. I pulled the blue from the accent pillows to use on the rattan chairs and lighten and contrast the brown. The TV is balanced on one side with a beautiful aged mirror on the other. In the photo below you can see the great blue and white vases in front of the mirror. A great natural fiber rug gives a casual feel and of course, my favorite, sheer draperies.
